A SPECIAL STORY

From a true family business

De Jong Plant was founded in 1978 as a collaboration between three brothers, Cor, Wil and Jos. After growing various products, they started cultivating hydrangeas in 1989. They quickly developed a passion for this flowering product, which led to the decision to specialise in it.

Our main range of hydrangeas is complemented by a changing selection of seasonal products, ensuring there is always a surprising variety. Every day, we work with great pleasure and passion to supply plants of the highest quality, so that our partners and customers can enjoy plants that really stand out and perform well.

1978

THREE BROTHERS

Cor (25 years old), Wil (24 years old) and Jos de Jong (21 years old) started growing on a piece of land in their spare time. The 1.5 ha piece of grassland behind the land of father Cor de Jong was bought and drained by hand for cultivation. This piece of land could only be reached by boat.

Almost immediately with the start of cultivation, the first products were also traded. Import of floriculture products from Belgium. The products were loaded by the brothers themselves in the evening and transported to the Netherlands at night. Everything had to be unloaded before 7.30 am. After that, they all had to return to their regular jobs.

1982

GEBR. DE JONG

Gebr. The Jong Handelskwekerijen was officially started in 1982. From that moment on, the brothers were able to work full-time in their own company. Almost from the start, the selling of floricultural products to Scandinavia was also started. From this moment on, exports to England and Sweden also began. The company's first specialities were rock plants and rhododendron.

SUSTAINABILITY

We follow the natural growth process of the plant and continuously take steps to minimise our footprint. For example, our irrigation water is 100% recirculated, we do not use lighting or heating in cultivation, and we use green plant enhancers and biological pest control. In addition, our growing pots and labels are made from 100% recycled material that is also 100% recyclable.

WIDE PRODUCT RANGE

In addition to our range of hydrangeas, we grow a number of seasonal products, including Ilex, Lavatera, Malva, Paeonia and Syringa. This enables us to supply a high-quality, varied range of garden plants all year round.
